Customize your own pillow support
The previous page shows diagrams, and describes the components which make up our adjustable head support system. Those components are:
1. The height adjustment. (customizable)
2. The user interface cushion (customizable)
3. Forward and backward tilt of interface cushion (customizable)
When a user varies the customizable components above, to their own specific needs, they are essentially building their own unique support system. The particular advantage of our system, is that a user can experiment with each component over time to find their best sleep experience. Most users will find that the height adjustment is the most important. Due to reasons anatomically related, when a user finds their ideal sleep height for either side sleeping or back sleeping, this height will work for both positions. Stomach sleeping requires a different setting.
Tilt control is provided by adding or subtracting tension from the back or the front of the web. It can also be controlled by "tethering" the cover on the web frame back brace. No other head support device offers this amount of tilt control, which is essential to achieving the ideal user head angle for maximum comfort. Though are heads and necks are required to flex through a wide degree of angles, and positions during our waking hours, it is at the time of sleep that we should strive to provide the conditions for minimum physical stress. When we've removed annoying pressure points and awkward positions, it can pave the way for our minds to give the green light for entering sleep.
About the web cushion: The web cushion sits directly on top of the web as shown on the previous page. It is made up of a medium density foam, combined with an ultra soft foam, which work to serve a dual purpose. It forms a firm base and provides a minimum starting point for the additional support provided by the user interface cushion.
About our interface cushion: Most of the bulk of a typical pillow is dedicated to elevating a person's head. Some pillow manufactures use a single type of fill to do this. This approach often fails since elevation of a user's head requires a firm fill which is often not pleasant for face contact. The opposite of that, are down pillows which typically are very pleasant to the face but cannot maintain a fixed support height. Down fill has the least amount of support of all the fill types currently offered. Typical types of fills commonly used in pillows, include solid polyurethane, shredded polyurethane, latex foam, memory foam, polyester fibers, cluster fiber, feathers or a combination of these fillers. Some manufacturers use a proprietary fill material which they typically highlight in their advertising. Regardless of the type of fill used, an end user will not get an enjoyable sleep if the specific type of fill used, does not provide the correct support height! When using our system, once the correct height is attained, it is simply a matter of finding a comfortable support material which feels good on the head, face and neck. After doing extensive testing, we have determined that a combination of two select materials, provides a soft feel and excellent memory. When we use the word memory, we are referring to a materials ability to return to its original shape when it has been compressed, and subsequently the compression is removed. Cluster fiber is a synthetic fiber which has hundreds of spun fiber pellets which act like tiny little springs. These pellets are slippery and allow for fast support recovery when a user changes their sleeping position. This particular fill resists clumping and matting and has a feel similar to down fill, but with much more support.
A word about pillow cases in general:
Most pillow cases do not have enough flexibility, or stretch to allow the inside fill material to push upward into the contours of a persons face and neck. In some cases, the pillow is over stuffed and causes the outer surface to be taught, and gives a less than desirable feel to the user. An ideal cover is one that can stretch and allow for more distributed support. Even the best fills can't be appreciated if the outer cover is too tight. The addition of "pillow protectors", only add to loss of flexibility, and we do not recommend them on our device. Our covers are easily and quickly removable, and can be washed as often as needed.
About our cover:
Jersey knit: Our jersey knit is a 100% cotton knit material which has four way stretch. It has a very soft texture, and due to its knit construction, allows for a large amount of airflow to areas of contact. The four way stretch allows the cushion filler to push up and fill small contours, which results in maximum comfort. Combined with our specially selected interface cushion fill, it gives the feel of down, but it offers the sustained support that down cannot provide.
