Setting the stage for quality sleep
Wouldn't it be nice to nap like a cat? The picture above shows a major difference between humans and cats. On this particular day, it was very hot, and the only things this feline needed for a good snooze, was a shady spot, with a cool breeze. Not even the hard concrete was going to get in the way of letting this cat do what a cat does best! Many of us humans aren't so lucky and require many more things, that must be in place, in order that we might visit the land of blissful slumber. The list of requirements for sleep varies from one individual to another. This list of requirements are the unique, essential ingredients that when all added together, could equal sleep. This is our "Sleep Equation". An example of that, might look like the following: Comfortable bed + Good head support + Ideal temperature + Quite atmosphere + Darkness + Calm state of mind = Sleep. In the example given above, there certainly could be some other less important factors that are needed, but it is important that each of us recognize what our main factors are, and strive to maximize each of them in order to pave the way for more quality sleep. Reaching the sleep state is never a guarantee, but failure is almost always assured unless we satisfy our minimum Sleep Equation factors. According to recent studies, the majority of us are not getting enough restful sleep, and the side effects can be far reaching. Lack of quality sleep can affect our mood, our relationships, our health, our earnings, and even shorten our lives. When trying to optimize the factors of our sleep equation, it helps to break them down into two groups. Group one might be the methods of attaining sleep, and group two might be the products that we can use to improve our sleep. The last factor in the example given above involves having a "Calm state of mind". This might be attained through a method or a technique, and the other factors might involve acquiring the material items needed to satisfy them as well. Since much surrounding the sleep state, and the things that can lead us to sleep, still remain a mystery, we can only hope to stack the cards in our favor, and be happy when we've succeeded in increasing the average amount of quality sleep that we get.
